Strong result for both Academy Motorsport Aston Martin Vantage GT4 cars

Academy Motorsport secured a double top 10 finish at Donington Park last weekend (22nd-23rd June), as part of the fourth round of the British GT Championship.
Having survived a busy qualifying session, the stage was set for Sunday’s two-hour race. Will Moore and Alex Toth-Jones lined up eighth on the grid, with Ben Hurst and Micah Stanley in 14th place.

Sadly, the Aston Martin of Moore and Toth-Jones succumbed to heavy damage early on in the race, forcing them to pit almost immediately. Executed like clockwork, the team implemented a repair job, ensuring the car was back in the race, having lost as little time as possible.

Between them Moore and Toth-Jones proved themselves once again, to steer their way to a top 10 finish, despite severe damage to their Aston Martin challenger.

Despite starting from a 14th place grid slot, Hurst and Stanley fought their way through the field. Armed with a new helmet design, Hurst climbed aboard for the opening hour-long stint, before handing over to Stanley for the final 60 minutes.

As the final half hour came to fruition, Stanley was sitting in a comfortable position. However, as fellow GT4 competitors fell by the wayside, the pair found themselves celebrating a strong seventh place result as the chequered flag fell.

Academy Motorsport’s Managing Director, Matt Nicoll-Jones, said: “It’s been another slightly frustrating weekend for us at Donington Park. All four drivers performed brilliantly once again, and the team worked so hard. To have a damaged car is always frustrating, especially so early in the race, but once again the team worked their magic to ensure we got the results. We’re consistently collecting top 10 results, hopefully we can take it to the next level and get back onto the podium.”

The next round of the British GT Championship sees the team head to Spa Francorchamps, for the sole European round on the 2019 calendar (20th – 21st July). However, prior to that Academy Motorsport will be racing at Zandvoort, for the next round of the GT4 European Series (12th – 14th July).
