Academy Motorsport doubles racing exploits at Spa
cademy Motorsport survived a busy weekend at the infamous Spa Francorchamps circuit this weekend (20th – 22nd July), as both the British GT Championship and GT4 European Series took control of the circuit for the next round of their respective championships.
Spa marked the fifth round of the British GT Championship and the fourth round of the GT4 European Series, with Academy Motorsport continuing their campaign in each.
Nicoll-Jones tripled his on-track exploits, with two more races in the GT4 European Series. Once again partnered by Fiona James, the pair continued their 2018 venture.
After wrestling their way through the first of two one hour races, James and Nicoll-Jones manoeuvred their way from a 47th place grid spot to 24th place at the chequered flag.
The second race sadly wasn’t as successful. Despite launching from a 15th place grid slot, retirement struck on lap five, forcing the Aston Martin back to the pits.
Following a busy weekend, Team Manager, Matt Nicoll-Jones, said: “It certainly was an eventful weekend for us. It was always going to be hectic with two different championships and three races to complete, but the team did a superb job as ever.
“We were pleased with two more top 10 results in the British GT outing. Will, Tom and Jan drove fantastically well once again. Tom and Jan had two punctures to deal with, but they dealt with it very well.
“Fiona did a brilliant job in the GT4 European Series. It’s a shame race two ended earlier than expected, but we’ll make up for it at the next round.”
The team now have a bit of breathing space before the next round of the British GT Championship at Brands Hatch during 4th-5th. The penultimate round of the GT4 European Series takes place at the Hungaroring between 1st-2nd September.
