Two brand new GT4 Aston Martins for Academy Motorsport in 2019
Established endurance racing team, Academy Motorsport, has added two brand new Aston Martin Vantage GT4 race cars to its fleet for 2019. As part of their continued relationship with Aston Martin Racing, the team plan to build on their current stance in both the British GT Championship and GT4 European Series.
With a bid to run a minimum of two cars in each championship next season, the team’s expansion will also heavily support the recently announced Aston Martin Racing Young Driver Academy. Initially introduced by the prestigious British marque in 2015, in an effort to discover their next factory-backed racing ace, The Young Driver Academy is making a comeback for 2019.
As one of few teams supported by Aston Martin Racing, Academy Motorsport drivers entered into the Young Driver scheme will enjoy the benefits of working alongside some of Aston Martin’s current factory driver flock from various disciplines and qualified engineers, whilst also receiving help with nutrition and fitness – everything needed to become a successful GT racing driver.
With a minimum of four cars competing across two championships, there is currently availability for those looking for a 2019 seat with Academy Motorsport. Those looking to form a Pro/Am driver pairing is also a desirable fitting for the team, with amateur or gentleman drivers an ideal candidate for either programme.
A prominent feature in this year’s British GT Championship, Academy Motorsport have so far collected multiple podium finishes. With one round still to go, the outfit look set to secure a top five result in each of the GT4 Drivers’ and Teams’ championship standings.
Commenting on the new addition to the team, Academy Motorsport Managing Director, Matt Nicoll-Jones said: “I’m thrilled to add two brand new Aston Martin GT4 race cars to our fleet. We have developed a strong presence in both the British GT Championship and GT4 European Series, and we hope to increase this from 2019 onwards.
“Our relationship with Aston Martin Racing is very strong, and we’re extremely keen to support the return of their Young Driver Academy.
“Together, our team has the experience and skills behind it to succeed. The addition of two brand new cars will help us develop this even further.”
On behalf of Aston Martin Racing, Managing Director John Gaw said: “It is encouraging to see Academy Motorsport continue their association with Aston Martin Racing. We look forward to working together to help them realise their targets, across a broad programme, with the new generation of Aston Martin Vantage GT4 race cars.”
The weekend of 22nd – 23rd September marks the end of the season for Academy Motorsport. Once completed, all attentions will swiftly switch gear to 2019 and the arrival of the new Aston Martin GT4 cars.
