Big plans for Academy Motorsport in 2021
Academy Motorsport is thrilled to confirm a strong programme ahead of the 2021 motor racing season. Continuing its partnership with Multimatic Motorsports, the team will return with its race winning Ford Mustang GT4 race cars, to contest both the British GT Championship and GT4 European Series, with drives currently available in each.
2020 was a strong year for the Academy Motorsport outfit, claiming a dominant victory, multiple pole positions and several lap records, as it challenged for the ultra-competitive British GT4 Championship title. After joining forces with Multimatic Motorsports ahead of the 2020 season, the switch to the Ford Mustang GT4 race car proved to be an extremely good move. Now with a season of racing with the Ford Mustang under its belt, the team is keen to build on its recent successes as we head into a new season.
Commenting on recent events, Academy Motorsport’s Managing Director, Matt Nicoll-Jones said: “2020 has been an amazing season for us. Obviously it hasn’t been without its challenges, but given everything we faced, we left 2020 happy.
“Working with Multimatic has been fantastic and we’re very much looking forwards to building on this during the season. Despite a limited amount of track time, together with Multimatic we have learnt more about the Ford Mustang and demonstrated just how competitive we can be.”
The new year will see Academy Motorsport launch an intense testing schedule ahead of another busy season. Although interest has been extremely popular, there is still space available for both the British GT Championship and the GT4 European Series, with the team keen to welcome serious contenders into its race winning Ford Mustang machine.
Larry Holt, Vice-President, Multimatic Special Vehicle Operations, said: “Academy Motorsport did an outstanding job in 2020, continuing the success of the Ford Mustang GT4 in the British GT Championship, despite the extra challenge that the pandemic presented to global racing.
“We are all hoping that 2021 will be a much easier ride and I’m fully confident that the team is going to build on the excellent performance that they achieved last season. Multimatic and Ford Performance are fully committed to the Mustang GT4 around the globe and we will continue supporting Academy Motorsport’s UK and European programmes with the continued development of their cars, technical assistance and track engineering.
“Harry and Matt Nicoll-Jones have created a world class GT team that we are proud to be associated with and I would highly recommend them to any driver wanting to be at the sharp end of the championship grid.”
Looking ahead to 2021 Nicoll-Jones added: “We’re quietly confident as we head into a new season. We know we have worked hard with the car. The GT4 grid is extremely tough, but to be challenging for pole positions, race wins and the GT4 title demonstrates our ability. We’re looking forward to developing our race winning performance in 2021.”
Academy Motorsport’s testing programme will begin as soon as possible, however test slots are becoming limited. Drivers looking to join the team for either its British GT Championship or GT4 European Series programme should contact the team directly:
